A WORN PATH Analyze Character: Describe Characters’ characteristics. Use detail. Keep in mind all impressions one gets from a character’s description, actions, words and feelings. What conclusions are we are supposed to draw? How are we supposed to view her? The other human characters? Analyze Symbols: Discuss the obstacles she encounters. What does each individually represent? Is there a collective meaning? What do the people (or other "beings") she encounters represent? Is the Ending Determinate or Indeterminate? What else is symbolic that you noticed? Analyze Setting: What details are we given by author? Are setting details symbolic? Consider nothing insignificant. Don’t forget time and place. Analyze Meaning: What other symbols are presented? Is there more than one message from this story? Is there more than one audience? Be prepared to elaborate. What other factors should we consider? Is the grandson dead or alive? Does it matter?
