Everyday Use Analyze Character: Describe Characters’ characteristics. Use detail. Keep in mind all impressions one gets from a character’s description, actions, words and feelings. What conclusions are we are supposed to draw? Analyze Setting: Why is the setting, both time and place, significant? How are we supposed to view these characters? In what setting would their individual actions and attitudes be out of place? Discuss the mother and both daughters. Be specific. Analyze Point of View: What details are we given by narrator? Are impressions and descriptions from narrator more illuminating of that character or her daughters? Is her tone or manner significant? Does it change? Can we trust her to be honest? How would this story be different if told from Third Person or from another character’s Point of View? Analyze Meaning: Is there more than one message from this story? Is there more than one audience? Be prepared to elaborate. What other factors should we consider? To what does "Everyday Use" refer?
