CASK OF AMONTILLADO

Analyze Character:
Describe each characters’ characteristics.  Use detail.
Keep in mind all impressions one gets from a character’s
description, actions, words and feelings.  What
conclusions are we are supposed to draw?  How are we
supposed to view her?  The other human characters? 
                                     
Analyze Point of View:
Discuss the narrator’s tone  How are we supposed to view
him and his act?  How does "Person" in which story is
told affect our perception of what we are told?

Analyze Setting:
What details are we given by author?  Are setting details
symbolic?  Don’t forget time and place.

Discuss Symbols:
What symbols so you see?  Include discussion of costumes,
coat of arms, and the names of the characters themselves. 

Discuss Irony:
Find examples of Verbal, Dramatic and Situational Ironies.  Be
complete in your discussion, including both literal and
ironic meanings, intentional or otherwise

Analyze Meaning:
What is Poe trying to tell us about human nature?  Does Montressor
have a successful vengeance?  Be prepared to support your answer.
Keep in mind the rules for successful revenge as set by M
himself early on the tale. 

What other factors should we consider?  Is the revenge
successful?  Explain.
